Memorial Human Rights Center will be hosting a roundtable on the humanitarian situation in Idlib

On Tuesday, July 16 at 2 PM (Moscow time), Memorial Human Rights Center (Karetny ryad, 5/10 bld.2) will be hosting a roundtable on humanitarian situation in Idlib (Syria) — the event will be timed with the anniversary of Natalia Estemirova’s murder. The event will be broadcasted live on Memorial’s YouTube channel.

For the very first time Russian activists, journalists and human rights defenders will gather together in Moscow to discuss the humanitarian situation in Idlib, issues of civilians, Russia’s role and consequences of its involvement in the most horrific ongoing humanitarian crisis since the end of WWII.

Among the guests of the event will be: Syrian orthopaedic surgeon and the head of the department of healthcare in Idlib Munsel Al Halil, who was awarded «Order of Pride of the Republic»; and Ghalia Rahal, the founder of Syrian organization Mazaya and the winner of the «Trust Women Hero Award» from Reuters.

The guests will talk about the humanitarian catastrophe in Idlib — the last de-escalation zone in Syria which is still not under Syrian regime control. The participants of the event will have a unique opportunity to ask them questions. Also, during the event the participants will be able to see video messages from the people of Idlib, recorded over the last few days in Idlib, the scenes of their everyday life.

Back at the end of April, the Syrian regime started a military escalation in Idlib, a province with current population over 3 million (including 1 million children) — with Russia’s participation and support (including from the air force and mercenaries). Since then, over 500 civilians have been killed and over 2000 injured; most of the deaths resulted from indiscriminate attacks of civilian objects: hospitals, refugee camps, schools, markets, mosques, residential areas.

Full-scale military operation following the destructive scenario that was used by Syrian forces with active support of its allies Russia and Iran to take control over Aleppo and Eastern Ghouta can lead to unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive deaths and casualties among the civilian population of Idlib.

سوف يستضيف مركز ميموريال  MEMORIAL نهار الثلثاء الواقع فيه 16 تموز 2019 في تمام الساعة 2 بعد الظهر (توقيت موسكو) حلقة مستديرة حول الوضع الإنساني في إدلب (سوريا). سوف تجري الحلقة بالتزامن مع ذكرى اغتيال ناتاليا استيميروفا Natalia Estemirova، وسوف تجري تغطيته من قبل صفحة Memorial على موقع يوتيوب. 

للمرة الأولى، سوف يجتمع ناشطون وحقوقيون وصحافيون روس في موسكو لمناقشة الوضع الإنسان في إدلب، كذلك دور روسيا ونتائج هذا الدور ومساهمته في أكثر أزمة إنسانية كارثية منذ نهاية الحرب العالمية الثانية. 

من ضمن الضّيوف، سوف يحضر اللِّقاء جَرّاح العِظام ورئيس قسم الرعاية الصحية في إدلب منصل الخليل، الذي حصل على جائزة فخر الجمهورية، وغالية رحال مؤسِّسَة المنظمة السورية "مزايا" والحائزة على جائزة Trust Women Hero Award من رويترز. 

سوف يتحدّث الضيوف حول الوضع الإنساني الكارثي في إدلب – منطقة خفض التصعيد الأخيرة في سوريا والتي ما زالت خارج سيطرة النظام السوري. سوف يتمكّن المشاركون في اللقاء من طرح الأسئلة على الضيوف. كذلك، سوف يتمكن المشاركون من مشاهدة رسائل مُسَجَّلَة خلال الأيام القليلة الماضية من قِبَل الناس في إدلب، والتي تُظهِر مشاهد من حياتهم اليومية. 

في أواخر نيسان، صعّد النظام السوري حملته العسكرية على إدلب، و هي محافظة يبلغ عدد سكانها الحالي نحو 3 ملايين نسمة (بما في ذلك مليون طفل)، بمشاركة و دعم روسيا (بما في ذلك القوات الجوية و المرتزقة). منذ ذلك الحين، قُتل أكثر من 500 مدني وأصيب أكثر من 2000، وقد سقط معظمهم ضحيّة للهجمات العشوائية على الأهداف المدنية كالمستشفيات ومخيمات النازحين والمدارس والأسواق والمساجد والأحياء السكنية.

من الممكن أن تؤدي العملية العسكرية الواسعة النطاق في أعقاب السيناريو المدمر الذي اتّبعته القوات السورية بدعمٍ ناشط من حلفائها الروس و الإيرانيين في حلب و الغوطة الشرقية إلى كارثة إنسانية بالإضافة إلى مقتل وإصابة أعداد كبيرة من المدنيين من بين سكان إدلب.
